The effectiveness of hypnosis for smoking cessation has been backed by scientific research and tons of success stories.

One of the key reasons why hypnosis is an effective approach because it addresses the underlying psychological factors that often contribute why people choose to smoke – stress relief, boredom, social pressures, and HABIT.   By accessing the subconscious mind, hypnosis can help identify and modify these patterns, leading to healthier choices and behaviors.

Almost all smokers have tried and failed to quit.  Will power works for some and works for a while for almost everyone.  But to truly change your mind, to get past the cravings and the withdrawal often takes help from an experienced councilor.

Using hypnosis we retrain your brain to crave the healthy balanced lifestyle that says goodbye to cigarettes FOREVER. Instead of viewing cigarettes as a source of comfort or reward, hypnosis can reframe your mindset to finally reject the poison that you put in your body by smoking. This shift in perspective leads naturally to better habits and a deeper connection with one’s body and its needs.

Plus hypnosis helps strengthen your resolve and commitment to your goals, making it easier to resist temptation and stay on track.

Hypnosis is a natural and holistic method that promotes overall well-being, including improved sleep, reduced stress levels, and enhanced self-esteem.

Combining Hypnosis with 'the patch', Chantix, or other prescriptions

We’ve all seen the adds for Chantix, as well as more traditional treatments like nicotine patches.  Do they work?  As you would expect the answer is “Yes and No”.

In theory nicotine patches and gum help you stop smoking by replacing your cravings for the nicotine you get from cigarettes.  Unfortunately, although you’re weaning yourself off of smoking,  you’re still not free from your dependence.  Many people tire of the side effects of patches and gum or simply never reduce their nicotine intake.  But the task feels halfway complete.

Chantix is the newest remedy and after possibly hundreds of millions of dollars in research and development, Chantix can boast a less than 50% rate of success.

And most Doctor’s that prescribe Chantix and other solutions often suggest pairing it with audio recordings or other behavior-based therapy.  If you’re serious about quitting THIS TIME, why not combine the best of pharmaceutical treatment with the tried and true hypnotic work of a Boston hypnotist.

Boston's history with hypnosis and smoking cessation - The Mad Russian

Known as the “Mad Russian” of Brookline, Yefim Shubentsov helped  thousands of people throughout Metrowest Boston including Brookline, Chestnut Hill, Needham, Natick, Wayland, and Sudbury.

Yefim Shubentsov’s was born in the Soviet Union and In 1979, immigrated to Brookline, just west of Boston. Without any traditional marketing or advertising, he became famous for using ‘bioenergy’ to help people quit smoking.  He claimed no special training, just a natural gift of healing.

From descriptions of his sessions, it seems pretty clear he was using many of the traditional tools of modern hypnotherapy including visualization, bilateral stimulation, anchoring, and language programming.  It is unclear if Shubentsov actually KNEW why his techniques worked, or if he chose not to use the common parlance for personal reasons.

In the early 1980’s, Mr. Shubentsov’s method was observed by two psychotherapists from Harvard University Health Services, Dr. Douglas Powell and Dr. Henry Babcock. ”He did some pretty good work, it was pretty impressive,” said Dr. Powell, director of research and behavioral science at Harvard University Health Services. ”These were pretty difficult patients, and he had about 50 percent success.”

He compared Mr. Shubentsov’s technique to quigong, an ancient form of Chinese medicine that combines movement, meditation and visualization to enhance the mind-body connection and assist healing. ”Some people are born to be healers, and he may have that in him,” Dr. Powell said.

Celebrities turn to hypnosis to quit smoking

What do Courtney Cox, Billy Joel, Drew Barrymore, Ewan McGregor, Ellen Degeneres, Adele and Joaquin Phoenix have in common.  They all had long standing smoking habits and they ALL turned to a qualified hypnotist for a solution.

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a process of focused attention, relaxation, and suggestion that bypasses our normal critical faculty that often gets in our way. It’s an altered state of consciousness, parallel to daydreaming, being engrossed in a movie or when we are in ‘flow’.  While in the state of hypnosis, the subconscious mind becomes porous and open to new beliefs and behaviors. Hypnosis can be understood as as a process of direct communication between the conscious and unconscious mind.
